Tonight, I'm ministering at the Essex County Correctional Facility, where I am now the Chaplain. I've placed myself on the schedule for the fourth Saturday of each month. I'll be ministering to a group of men that the facility calls P.C., i.e. "Protective Custody". The men on this unit have, for one reason of another, found themselves in need of protection from the general population at the facility. The reasons for this are too numerous to explain. Suffice it to say, many of them have done things that you would cringe at if you knew the details. As for me, I don't cringe, I rejoice deeply in my heart at the opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with broken and wounded men.
I've found myself recently reflecting on the work of Christ and it'd depth. I see in myself, and the Church-at-large, a lack of deep appropriation of Christ and His Cross. It's a very personal gift. Our ability to see that and apply it, determines our maturity. Maturity is the heart of the ministry of New Brothers Fellowship. I believe it is also the heart of God for us as Sons and Daughters of God.
Please pray for me, our wonderful Volunteers, Chaplains around the state, and all of the New Brothers scattered throughout the state, both inside and outside of prison. They need you to stand with them. We ALL need you to stand with us as intercessors. The Laborers are few.
May I ask today, that you consider praying about participating as a Volunteer in this vital work. We need men of God who are courageous enough to serve without compensation. Please contact us if you're interested.
Abundant thanks and the blessing of Christ and His Spirit upon you all.
In Christ - Doug
