A Good Start!

31 January 2012

"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another." Romans 12:3-5

A Good Start!
January  has been a busy and blessed beginning for our new year. We began 2012 with a long list of ideas and goals, and we are already seeing ideas implemented and goals achieved. This is encouraging as we move forward into February, with so much to do ahead of us. The work is plentiful! Prayer is vital!

One of our partner chuches, Hope Community Church in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Pastor Pete Ballentine, asked us this week to share some key prayer requests for 2012. We thought others might like to know some specific ways to intercede for NBF this year, too, so we are sharing with you all the list we sent HCC.

1) Increased connectivity: to men; to churches; to volunteers.
2) There are two material needs: an Apple computer; a second vehicle.
3) An increase in outreaches at both the Lawrence and Middleton facilities, reaching men in the units where they reside---men who do not attend chapel.

4) Continued favor at both facilities; protection & safety.

5) The launch of a new Discipleship Group.
6) Increased NBF presence at facilities outside Essex County.
7) Physical and spiritual health and strength. So Loved!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Just received word Tina Luce will lead worship and minister in music at the NBF Night, February 3rd at Wesley United Methodist Church in Salem, Massachusetts.

Tina has been the worship leader at Wesley UMC since 1997, in addition to being a highly sought after music minister and speaker. Though blind since birth, she has not allowed this to hinder her work for the Lord in any way, even serving for a number of years in prison minsitry at the Middleton jail. Please, visit her website to learn more about her and to hear a sample of her music: www.EyesOfFaith.com

What others have said about Tina:
"Tina Luce is more than just a gifted musician and worship leader. She has an incredible heart for God."

"Tina does not minister for the sake of show ... or entertainment ... but to stir the high praises of God within the people and allow the Holy Spirit to bring the people into a deeper relationship with God."

"Tina, I don't have the words to thank you for such a wonderful album!!!
It was again a healing gift to me. It was powerful, beyond excellent!! Thank you for continuing to work hard with what the Lord gives you and for sharing it with people like me. I am so grateful."

"Tina Luce is one of the most sensitive, faithful, virtuous, compassionate, Holy Spirit-led worship leaders I’ve ever ministered with in forty years of ministry. She is so in tune with the Spirit that she deeply and compassionately moves every congregation into God’s holy presence."

If you are in the area, please join us on the 3rd. It is going to be a fantastic night. You will be blessed!

"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:14-16

So Loved!
Each quarter, New Brothers Fellowship hosts an NBF Night, which is a  time for the church community to cross denominational lines and gather together with a common purpose: to worship the Lord and hear of His marvelous works. If you have a heart for men in prison, you won't want to miss this wonderful time of fellowship. It really is a very special time for the Body of Christ.

Our host church this time is Salem Wesley in Salem, Massachusetts (Senior Pastor Arthur Savage). Salem Wesley also hosts the Salem NBF Discipleship Group each Wednesday, under the leadership of  Pastor Rob Parady. Rob is also a long-time volunteer at both the Middleton jail and The Farm in Lawrence.

Our special guest at this NBF Night will be Mr. Mark Collett. Mark has worked for many years at The Bridge House in Framingham and as a volunteer for Straight Ahead Ministries.  He is a college instructor, trained counselor, and addiction specialist. As you can see, his credentials are considerable. However, his testimony will blow you away! You don't want to miss it.

Prayer
When asked how people can help, Doug's first answer is always: pray. Will you? We have a lot going on in the ministry right now, and a lot planned for the future. Without prayer, we cannot hope to accomplish the work before us.
For specific prayer needs and praise reports, please visit the NBF Prayer page on Facebook: www.Facebook.com/NBFprayer.

Until the next time, we pray the Lord bless you. We are also hoping to see many of you on February 3rd. Save the date and plan to join us for this great night.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

We trust the Lord blessed you and yours with a safe and happy holiday season. We ended 2011 with the annual Christmas Eve outreach at The Farm, and have begun 2012 with excitement, energy, and vision. The desire to reach men in prison, and to see those who leave prison with Christ stay with Christ, grows stronger each day. The Holy Spirit continually teaches us how to more effectively do the work God has called us to, and His inspiration fuels our passion. We are blessed to be here, and so grateful for your partnership.

How to Help Right Now
Before Doug left for The Farm today, he asked: "Will you please share the need we have for glasses?" He was referring to reading glasses. Every day the men inside ask him for glasses so they can read. He said, "I can't get enough of them!" We have seen reading glasses for as little as a dollar a pair, but even used glasses will work. Any strength or style is fine; the only requirement is that they have completely plastic frames. If you can help with this need, glasses may be mailed to NBF, P.O. 307, Haverhill MA 01830. Or, call us at (978) 374-5692 to arrange a pick-up or drop-off. Bonus: These glasses are an outreach opportunity for the Chaplain's office, because they are given to any man in need, not just the men who attend chapel services. Isn't that great? Showing the love of Jesus with a pair of cheaters!

Until Next Week

As we close, we want to share a change for 2012: the e-iNBrieF will now be emailed weekly, and be much briefer! We are also once again publishing a paper newsletter for churches and individuals who have expressed an interest in supporting NBF. If you would like to receive that mailed newsletter, let us know!
(It will also be available as a PDF, if preferred.)

We are praying for you and welcome your prayer requests. Thank you for keeping us in prayer, too! For specific prayer needs, and praise reports, please visit the NBF Prayer page on Facebook: www.Facebook.com/NBFprayer.
God bless you all!

In Him alone,
Doug, Caroline, & Hannah Gregan

A Vision Coming To Pass

E-mail Print PDF

Volunteers met last night at the Ladder House in advance of the launch of NBF's newest Discipleship Group. These men came from three churches, and there are two other churches that have said they want to help. That alone is a massive answer to prayer, but it is also an evidence of the work that needs to be done. Every other Discipleship Group has launched with one volunteer. The original launch team was three men, and so far that number is six committed men, with more to come. God is calling out troops for this one!

And, for good reason. They are stepping into the center of Satan's territory in Lawrence. A place that has been a "hell hole" for year is being claimed for God! Satan has held that building as a fortress of evil, but we are claiming this is going to be a mighty fortress of our God!

There is a big job to do here, but God opened the door. We know He means for us to walk in and take this ground. So, please pray. I am going to share the names of the men who are leading, so that you may pray for them specifically.

WHAT IS LADDER HOUSE?
To help answer some questions: The Ladder House is a halfway house that men are sent to by the county. There is a correctional officer that oversees the building, but monitoring happens by means of electronic bracelets and drug testing. Men hate going here, because it is such a miserable place. It is surrounded by crack houses. Access to drugs is as easy as a snap of the finger. The spirit over this place is pure evil.

The Ladder House is a former firehouse in the heart of the city of Lawrence.

However, God gave Doug a vision to see this place used for His Kingdom, and the Superintendent has given him a wide open door. It's INCREDIBLE!

God has done the work. WE MUST JUST PRAY!

VISION
You must know that the vision for this house extends far beyond the Discipleship Group. We hope to launch a Christian 12-step ASAP. We also hope for a Sunday service. We hope to see a clothes distribution here, holiday meals, clean-up days, etc. We are asking churches to let the Holy Spirit inspire them! The Superintendent has said some things to Doug that I actually hesitate to say, because they are so good I can't believe it.

VOLUNTEERS
The core leadership team is from Free Christian Church in Andover. They are Larry, Len, and Jack. Joining them will be Ramses, from Newburyport Assembly of God, and Carlos and Adonis, from River of Living Waters Church in Lawrence. The other two churches that has expressed interest, but could not attend last night, are Lawrence Evangelical Church and Spanish Assemblies of God in Lawrence.

(L to R) Carlos (w/his daughter), Larry, Ramses, Jack, Doug, Len, Adonis

Please note that having Spanish churches involved is phenomenal. We have prayed for this for a long time.

OK. Sorry for how long this is, but there is so much to share! I will close now, but am going to add some photos, so you can get a feel for the place. I did not photograph the upstairs, where the men live, out of respect for their privacy. As you look at the pictures, remember that is managed by the county. The men are ordered to live here.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and to pray!

In Him,
Caroline

P.S. Of course, keeping Doug in prayer, as he directs this, is very appreciated, too! Satan has not let up on his attacks. To share just one example: Doug has been enduring a terrible time with his skin. His hand is one big open wound that is not healing. Your prayers are valuable to us!
